How can you be sure your visual system is working to its full potential? The best way to find out is by scheduling yearly visits with Dr. Miller for a comprehensive eye exam.
It’s important for adults to have eye exams on a regular basis to check for any prescription changes and for eye disease. Regular eye exams are critical for detecting glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
Adults should see an eye doctor at least every two years and annually after age 60.
One in four children have vision problems, and many of them go undiagnosed for years. This can lead to a delay in the learning process, and children can even be misdiagnosed as having a learning disorder.
While school and pediatric screenings can help detect potential problems, they are limited in their accuracy and do not test for things like eye coordination, lazy eye, and refractive problems. Screenings are best combined with regular eye exams by an eye doctor.
Don’t let your kids fall through the cracks during their critical educational period! Here are our general suggestions as to when your child(ren) should come in:
- By 3 years old (or earlier if there is a family history of vision problems like lazy eye)
- Again before they enter kindergarten
- Every 1-2 years afterwards; sooner if a problem is diagnosed
Medical Eye Examinations
Dr. Miller may recommend more frequent exams if you have a health condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, work in a visually demanding job, or take medications which can affect eyesight.
Dr. Miller is also trained to help in the management of eye diseases like macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and many others. Our office has many special testing instruments to track progression of disease so we can stay on top of our patient’s ocular health.
